Our mission
Our mission is to create a community of empowered and happy dancers. Through a multidisciplinary and holistic approach, dancers can train more effectively and dance with more joy for many years to come.
We believe that there are five facets that make up the
Empowered Dancer in Brazilian Zouk:
Brazilian Zouk Dancer
Healthy Dancer
Technical Dancer
Creative Dancer
Mindful Dancer
Brazilian Zouk Dancer
We believe that Brazilian Zouk is a partner dance that needs to be trained solo as well as in a couple. When you are connected to yourself, you are more able to connect with your partner. We believe that an empowered follower is able to dance on their own without the suggestions and support of a leader. Similarly, an empowered leader is able to express themselves through their own bodies as well as their partner’s. Our ideal is a dancer that has an understanding of both roles, so we encourage you to not limit yourself to classes in just one role. The more you have a multifaceted understanding of Brazilian Zouk, the more sensitive your dance can become.
Healthy Dancer
We believe that the best technical guidance cannot serve your training if your body is not ready. We have sought fitness experts to share with you their training methods so that your body can become stronger, more mobile, and more able to move dynamically. We will also show you how to take care of your body after class and training, or after parties and festivals, when it needs to rest and regenerate.
Technical Dancer
We believe that to become an empowered Brazilian Zouk Dancer, you should build strong dance foundations by training in multiple dance styles. We have curated fundamental techniques from Ballet, Jazz and Modern to share with you the foundational techniques that add the most value to your training in Brazilian Zouk to give you context and depth as a dancer.
Creative Dancer
We believe that as individuals, we all have feelings that we want to express and stories that we want to tell, and dance is a wonderful way to do so. As such, we don’t want dance to be merely memorisation of set sequences and patterns. We want to empower you with the tools and skills to find your inner voice, to improvise, to dance in a way that is true to you.
You will find that our classes are organised by these five facets so that you can become a balanced and empowered dancer.
Mindful Dancer
We believe that everything, action and inaction, emotions ranging from euphoria to anxiety, starts in our mind. In the same way that we must prepare our bodies for dance, we must also prepare our minds. As dancers, we encounter situations that are unlike the general populace, and so we have developed meditations specifically for dancers on how to ease into the right mindset before socials and parties, competitions, classes, and how best to heal your body.

We want to build a healthy and happy community where Brazilian Zouk dancers can freely share their thoughts, inspirations, experiences and concerns. Please introduce yourself at our ted community forum and share your dance dreams and goals.
Together we are stronger and happier! Let’s support each other on our dance journeys.
Power Talks
Once a month, we feature an expert in the movement industry to give a talk on their perspective on how to become an empowered dancer and mover. You can submit your questions in advance, or ask your questions live during the interview.
Retreats
Our goal is also to meet you in person, so when it is safe to do so, we will be partnering with some great artists and experts who share our values and philosophy to offer training and holiday retreats where we can unite and share our love for Brazilian Zouk.
Live Group Classes via Zoom
These classes are dedicated to Brazilian Zouk followers who want to have solid follower technique and be able to actively express themselves in the dance at the same time. These classes will focus on body awareness, solo technique, attitude, musicality, and styling. Get the tools you need to create your unique style.
Live Private Coaching via Zoom
Private Coaching is the most effective and efficient way to achieve your dance goals. You can use private coaching sessions to review your dance videos, e.g. J&J competition footage, so Joanna (certified BZDC judge) can assess your strengths and areas of improvement. Private coaching can also be used to train a particular skill that you struggle with, or for seeking advice on how to structure your solo/pair training. These private coaching sessions can be recorded for you to keep after.
